Southeast Texas has no shortage of things to do on the weekend. What it doesn't have is a reliable list of what's actually open. Sea Rim State Park runs 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and costs $4. The Spindletop Boomtown Museum stops selling tickets at 4 p.m. Shangri La, 252 acres of gardens in Orange, is closed all day Sunday. Those three facts are the difference between a good Saturday and a wasted tank of gas.

If you've lived in the Golden Triangle a while, you know the pattern. Saturday is easy. Sunday is where plans go to die — the winery that "opens at noon" is dark, the museum doesn't unlock until one, and the candy shop you promised the kids is shut two days a week. Almost every guide to things to do in Southeast Texas on the weekend lists the places and skips the part that decides your day.
So we checked. Every venue below was verified against the operator's own website or channel, plus at least one independent source, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours confirmed separately. Where a price or an opening time couldn't be confirmed, we left it out rather than repeat the directories, because a lot of what they say is wrong. Three of the venues we checked are listed elsewhere as open on Sundays when they are not.

What's Open on a Sunday in Southeast Texas?
Sunday here opens in shifts, and knowing the order saves you a wasted trip.
The outdoors opens first. Sea Rim State Park is open from 6 a.m. and Village Creek from 8, both $4 a head. Cattail Marsh, the Beaumont Botanical Gardens and Big Thicket National Preserve are all free and open dawn to dusk. Big Thicket's trails never close at all.
Attractions open mid-morning. Gator Country at 10, Jumping World at 11, Urban Air and most bowling centres at noon.
Museums open last. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas opens at noon and is free. Spindletop Boomtown Museum and the Texas Energy Museum both open at 1 p.m., and both stop admitting visitors at 4, so a 4:15 arrival gets you nothing.
Three Sunday failures catch people out locally. Frascone Winery and Meridian Wine Bar are both closed Sunday, despite being listed as open on other guides. Victoria's Candy Shop is Friday and Saturday only. And the Warren Loose Conservatory at the Botanical Gardens is locked both weekend days, even though the grounds around it are open and free.
What's Open on a Friday Night in Southeast Texas?
1. Which Southeast Texas Breweries Are Open All Weekend?
Three taprooms cover the Golden Triangle, and all three run the full weekend, which is rarer here than it sounds. Buckstin started in Nederland in 2019 and opened its Beaumont taproom on Phelan Boulevard in April 2024, so any "coming soon to Beaumont" you still read is two years stale. Struggle Street sits in Beaumont's Oaks Historic District on Calder Avenue. There's no cover at any of them during regular taproom hours.

2. Avenue Axe, Port Neches
Avenue Axe is a sports bar with throwing lanes attached, on Port Neches Avenue, and it keeps the longest Sunday hours of anything in this section: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Lanes book by the hour: $25 per adult for 60 minutes, $35 for 90, with kids 12 and under at $20 and $30.
Two things the listings leave off. There's 8.25% tax and a $6 reservation fee on top, which moves a four-person hour from $100 to roughly $114. And their own website contradicts itself on Sunday closing: the throwing page still says 9 p.m. while the contact page and Google both say 10:30. Book the earlier slot if it matters to you.
The Bottom Line: The most forgiving Friday-or-Sunday booking in the county, as long as you budget for the fee.

3. 5 Under Golf Center, Beaumont
5 Under on College Street is a two-storey, 20-bay Toptracer range with indoor Topgolf Swing Suites and more than 140 virtual courses. It's open until midnight Friday and Saturday and 10 p.m. Sunday, which makes it one of the few places in Beaumont where "what do we do at nine on a Sunday" has an answer.
Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crab cake benedict is $20, shrimp and grits $18, the brisket stack $15, par 3 pancakes $11. Parties of six or more pick up an 18% service charge. Their menu bills the shrimp and grits as a Taste of the Triangle 2023 first-place winner. That's their own claim on their own menu, and Taste of the Triangle is a real Beaumont event.
The Bottom Line: Golf that doesn't require being a golfer, plus the region's most dependable late Sunday kitchen.

4. Where Can You Bowl Late in Southeast Texas?
Four centres, and the useful thing about them is how late they go. Star Bowling and Crossroads both run to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday; Main Event goes to 2. Sunday is the softer day, with most closing between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Sunday deals worth knowing: Star Bowling does $11 unlimited bowling, and Crossroads does $15 unlimited from 7 p.m. Two corrections to what's circulating: Star's deal day is $2 Tuesdays, not $3, and Crossroads moved its $2 day to Thursday even though an old video still says Tuesday.

The Bottom Line: Sunday night bowling is genuinely cheap here if you go after 7.

5. Where Can You Get a Glass of Wine on a Sunday?
This is where other guides go wrong, so read the table before you drive. Frascone Winery and Meridian Wine Bar are both closed on Sunday, stated plainly on their own websites, and you will find both listed elsewhere as "open Sundays 12–6." They are not.
Of the five, only Free State Cellars in Orange and Ceccoli in Winnie actually pour on a Sunday afternoon. Hammered Honey is appointment-only rather than a walk-in tasting room, and its address reads Orangefield, not Orange. None of the five publishes a tasting or flight price we could confirm, so we're not printing one.

6. Manning's Texas on Wheels, Beaumont
A roller rink on College Street that has been doing one thing well for a long time. Friday is a single evening session, 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday splits into an afternoon from noon to 6 and an evening from 6 to 10. Sunday is one 2-to-6 p.m. session, which makes it one of the better Sunday-afternoon options for kids in Beaumont.
Admission went up this year and most listings haven't caught up. It's $10 for the Sunday and Saturday afternoon sessions and $12 for Friday and Saturday evenings, with skate rental $4 on top. Non-skating parents pay $5 to come in and sit down. The $7-and-$10 figures still showing on the skating directories are last year's.
The Bottom Line: The cheapest supervised three hours you'll find on a Sunday afternoon.

What Are the Best Things to Do in Southeast Texas on a Saturday?
7. Sea Rim State Park, Sabine Pass
Five miles of Gulf shoreline with a boardwalk trail out over the marsh, and the longest opening hours of any park in the region: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., all three weekend days. Entry is $4 per person for anyone 13 and older, and children 12 and under are free — not the $3 you'll still see on tourism listings, which haven't tracked the state's own fee page.
One genuinely useful quirk: you don't need a fishing licence inside a Texas state park. The state waives licences and stamps within park boundaries, though bag and size limits still apply. Before you plan around the beach, note that East Beach has been closed to camping and vehicles since a wash-out in February 2026, and that closure is still in force.
The Bottom Line: The best value on this list and the easiest big-sky reset in Southeast Texas.

8. Village Creek State Park, Lumberton
Sandbars, tea-coloured water and pine forest, half an hour north of Beaumont. Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday, same $4 per person as Sea Rim with under-13s free.
The catch is the rental window. Paddleboards, kayaks and canoes are available but only from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather and water permitting. Turn up at three and there's nothing to hire. We're not printing rental rates because the state publishes none, and the figures circulating online trace back to a Facebook post from the summer of 2021. Since January 2026 the trail to the swim beach has been closed by flood damage, and swimming has moved to the canoe launch, with beach access by kayak or canoe only.
The Bottom Line: Go early or don't go at all — the good part shuts at two.

9. Big Thicket National Preserve
The most underrated thing in Southeast Texas, and the only entry on this list that costs nothing at all. The National Park Service is unambiguous: Big Thicket is free to visit and no entrance pass is required. The visitor centre at Kountze runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, and the preserve's trails, roads and waterways are open 24 hours.
Those hours do not change with the season either. The preserve closes just three days a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Two things to know before you set off: it spreads across seven counties with no single park entrance, so pick your unit first, and the park store went cashless in 2025.
The Bottom Line: Free, open every day of the year but three, and genuinely wild.

10. Cattail Marsh and the Beaumont Botanical Gardens
Two separate free venues inside Tyrrell Park, at two different addresses, and most guides mash them into one. Cattail Marsh is 900 acres of constructed wetland with a boardwalk out into it, open dawn to dusk every day. The Beaumont Botanical Gardens, eleven landscaped acres at 6088 Babe Zaharias Drive, keep the same dawn-to-dusk grounds hours. Both cost nothing.
Two buildings are the trap. The Wetlands Education Center opens Friday 9–6 and Saturday 11–2, and lists no Sunday hours at all. The Warren Loose Conservatory is closed Saturday and Sunday — so a weekend visitor who drove out specifically for the glasshouse finds it locked. The grounds, trails and boardwalk are open regardless.
The Bottom Line: The best free morning in Beaumont, as long as you're there for the outdoors and not the buildings.

11. Gator Country, Beaumont
An alligator rescue park on FM 365 that keeps identical hours all three weekend days, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with live shows at noon, 2 and 4, weather and crowds permitting. Alongside the gators there's a splash pad, a feeding zoo of goats, emus and tortoises, and a walk-through parakeet aviary.
Budget properly: admission is $19.99 for adults and $16.99 for children aged 3 to 12. The $15-and-$12 pricing still showing on tourism listings and reseller sites is well out of date and will send you to the gate short. Food on site is a snack shack plus whatever food trucks are in that day, so it isn't a restaurant — eat first or plan around it.
The Bottom Line: The one attraction here that no other region in Texas can copy.

12. Which Southeast Texas Museums Are Open on a Weekend?
Three museums keep real weekend hours in Southeast Texas, and one of them costs nothing. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas is free, always, and it's open seven days a week, but note the staggered opening times, because a 10 a.m. Sunday arrival meets a locked door.
The Texas Energy Museum tells the oil story that made this region, and it's the one to watch on timing: it opens at 1 p.m. on Sunday and stops selling tickets at 4, so the real Sunday window is three hours. The Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur (Janis Joplin, Robert Rauschenberg, the whole Gulf Coast music and sports story) is closed Sundays entirely.

13. Colorado Canyon, Beaumont
Mini golf, an arcade, gemstone sluicing and a holographic theatre on Folsom Drive, the region's reliable rainy-Saturday answer. Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 8 p.m. hold all year; only the Friday opening moves, at 11 a.m. in summer and noon once school is back.
Prices have roughly doubled from what the directories still show, so plan on current numbers: mini golf is $14 for one course or $19 for both, with seniors at $12 and $17 and children at $9 and $14. Gemstone mining bags start at $12.95. If you're staying a while, the $49.95 wristband bundles unlimited mini golf, a large mining bag, $10 of arcade credit and two simulator passes.
The Bottom Line: The best place in the Golden Triangle to lose three hours to weather.

14. Tugboat Island and Riverfront Park, Port Neches
Port Neches Riverfront Park sits at the corner of Merriman and Grigsby, 27 acres on the Neches River. Tugboat Island, the wooden playground at its heart, is open 8 a.m. until dusk, seven days a week, free.
This is a new playground. The 1996 original was dismantled in 2020, and the community rebuilt it: 3,400 volunteers, some 30,000 hours, more than 20,000 square feet. It opened on 30 March 2025 to a crowd of 3,500. The city's own page hasn't caught up and still describes the old structure. Also on site: La Maison Beausoleil, a Cajun house built around 1810 in Louisiana and barged up the Neches, open Saturday and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m., free. Four pickleball courts and two boat ramps round it out.
The Bottom Line: The best free half-day for young kids in Southeast Texas, and the Cajun house beside it is the region's most overlooked free hour.

15. Where Can You Get Sunday Brunch in Southeast Texas?
Three places do a proper Sunday brunch here, and the windows are narrower than you'd think. Madison's on Dowlen runs 11 to 3 and is the only one open late into Sunday evening. Dylan's in Port Arthur starts earliest at 10:30 and has confirmed live music around 11. LogOn Cafe serves 10 to 2 — and then the kitchen shuts, so it isn't an all-day stop.
Two corrections. LogOn is at 3805 Calder Avenue, not 305, and it doesn't open at all on Saturday until 6 p.m. At Madison's, mimosas are genuinely $2 a glass or $10 a carafe, and the shrimp and grits are $17.99.

16. Which Ice Cream Shops Are Open on a Sunday?
Eleven shops across the Golden Triangle are open on a Sunday and trade year-round. Tropicana in Bridge City is the only true scoop parlour of the group; Mabel's is a shaved-ice stand, Legendairy is a gelato cafe, and the Michoacana shops sell paletas and Mexican treats.
A few name corrections, because the listings garble them: it's Quenchies, no apostrophe, and it opens at noon on Sunday rather than one. Mike's is now Mike's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop under new ownership and runs to 7, not 5.

17. Which Jump Parks Are Open All Weekend?
Two indoor jump parks in Beaumont, both open all three weekend days, both requiring their own branded grip socks that you'll be buying at the counter if you forget.
Urban Air on the Eastex Freeway runs Sunday noon to 8, with an Ultimate pass at $26.99 and Deluxe at $22.99. Jumping World on South 11th Street opens earlier at 11 a.m. Sunday and runs to 9, with open jump at $14.99 for the first hour and an unlimited Jump Pass at $19.99. Jumping World also has a rock wall, a mechanical bull and mini go-karts charged separately.

18. Pickett House and Heritage Village, Woodville
Worth the hour's drive from Beaumont for the all-you-can-eat family-style meal alone. Pickett House serves 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, two hours longer than most write-ups claim. It's $17.99 for adults 12 to 59, $16.99 for seniors 60 and over, and $6.99 for children 4 to 10.
Next door, Heritage Village Museum opens 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. all three days at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. There's no senior rate, whatever you've read. And to settle a piece of misinformation that has spread widely: there is no Saturday farmers' market at Heritage Village. The Woodville farmers' market you'll find in search results is in Woodville, Ohio. The village's real signature event is the Harvest Festival in October.
The Bottom Line: One of the last true family-style dinner tables in East Texas, and the museum next door makes it a half-day.

19. Spindletop Boomtown Museum, Beaumont
The 1901 gusher that started the Texas oil industry happened here, and the museum is a reconstructed boomtown of clapboard saloons, a general store and a wooden derrick on the Lamar University campus. Open Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
Admission is the best-value history in the region: $5 adults, $3 seniors 60 and over, $2 for children 6 to 12, under-fives free, and free for veterans and active military with ID. Two practical notes: last admission is 4 p.m. and the gift shop closes at 4:30, and the street is Jimmy Simmons Boulevard, which plenty of listings misspell. The Lucas Gusher re-enactment is arranged in advance at $50 a group, so don't turn up expecting a plume.
The Bottom Line: Five dollars for the place that changed Texas — arrive by three.

20. McFaddin Beach, Sabine Pass
If what you want is an empty Gulf beach with nobody on it, this is the one. The McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge is free and open sunrise to sunset, seven days a week. That's 58,861 acres of marsh behind roughly twenty miles of open beach, and the Fish and Wildlife Service is explicit that there is no charge to visit.
It is also the least forgiving entry here. There are no services of any kind — no lifeguards, no water, no restrooms, no fuel near the refuge. Highway 87 has been severed between High Island and Sabine Pass since 1989, so you approach from the Port Arthur side and return the same way. And we won't tell you to drive on the sand: the refuge's own literature warns that "driving accessibility on McFaddin Beach is remote and uncertain." Treat four-wheel drive as required.
The Bottom Line: Solitude, shells and sky — for prepared visitors only. If you want a car park and a toilet, go to Sea Rim instead.

21. Cook's Lake to Scatterman Paddling Trail
A 4.8-mile paddling loop through cypress and tupelo on the Neches, taking most people two to five hours. It starts and finishes at the LNVA Saltwater Barrier boat ramp on Bigner Road in Beaumont, and the water runs inside Big Thicket National Preserve, where waterways are open 24 hours. No launch fee is published by any authority.
Two cautions. Check the river level before you commit. Both the state and the Park Service say so, and low late-summer water or fast post-rain water changes the trip completely. And the crossing between the two lakes is marked only by signs nailed to trees, so carry a map and the GPS coordinates. These are old river channels, and a "short" 4.8 miles becomes an all-day problem if you lose the line. Alligators and water snakes are common.
The Bottom Line: The most genuinely wild half-day within twenty minutes of Beaumont, if you're a confident paddler.

Open Friday and Saturday Only: What Closes Before Sunday?
These four are worth building a weekend around — but every one of them is shut by the time Sunday comes round. It's the part most weekend lists leave out.
22. Shangri La Botanical Gardens, Orange
Two hundred and fifty acres of gardens, blackwater bayou and a nature centre in Orange, and it costs nothing to get in or to park. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday — and closed Sunday and Monday. Last entry is 4:30, so a late Saturday arrival gets turned away at the gate.
It's the biggest omission from most Southeast Texas weekend lists, because people assume a botanical garden is a Sunday activity. Plan around it: no pets, no drones, no outside food except in the courtyard picnic area, and under-16s need an adult. Don't count on the pontoon boat tours either; they're seasonal and cancel whenever the heat index tops 100°.
The Bottom Line: The best free thing in Orange County, and a Friday or Saturday commitment.

23. Boston Avenue, Nederland
Nederland's historic main street, running roughly the 1100 to 1500 blocks, is the closest thing the Golden Triangle has to a walkable browse-and-eat afternoon. It's free to walk and free to park, with Tex Ritter Historical Park anchoring the east end at 1500 Boston Avenue.
Treat it as a Friday or Saturday plan. The boutiques keep daytime hours and close early: Gaudie & Company runs 10 to 6 Friday and 10 to 5 Saturday, and is closed Sunday. Sorella's Wine Bar opens at 4 both evenings and is also closed Sunday. The one confirmed Sunday-open anchor on the whole strip is Buckstin Brewing at 1211, noon to 9. Saturday's retail window is genuinely short: by five, the shopping is done.
The Bottom Line: A proper Friday afternoon or Saturday morning — on Sunday it's a brewery and a quiet street.
Action Item: The Dutch Windmill Museum is free but publishes no hours anywhere; ring (409) 723-1545 before you plan around it.
24. Beaumont Children's Museum
Tucked inside the north entrance of the Beaumont Civic Center, this is the region's best wet-weather option for under-tens: open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and closed every Sunday of the year.
Pricing is unusual and worth reading twice, because it runs the opposite way to most attractions: children 12 and under are $8 while adults are $6, under-ones are free, and military families and over-55s get a dollar off. SNAP and EBT cardholders pay $2 a head for up to four people. Two things that catch people out: parking and the entrance are on the north side of the Civic Center, not the main doors, and an adult without a child needs to book an appointment rather than just walk in.
The Bottom Line: Friday and Saturday only — and the children cost more than you do.

25. Victoria's Candy Shop, Beaumont
Mexican and American sweets, piñatas, balloons and party supplies on College Street, and a genuinely nice twenty minutes with kids in tow. Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Closed Sunday.
We flag it because it turns up on other Sunday lists as "open 11 a.m.–6 p.m.", and it isn't. Our confidence is highest on the Saturday hours, which the shop posted itself; the Friday times and the Sunday closure come from two independent listings that agree. It has no working website either, so check Instagram before you drive over.
The Bottom Line: A good Friday or Saturday errand, and a locked door on Sunday.

Which Southeast Texas Attractions Are Seasonal?
An evergreen guide is only honest if it says which of these stops happening in January. Nine of them do.
- Beaumont's ten free splash pads run Memorial Day to Labor Day, and daily hours are published nowhere. Call Parks & Rec on (409) 838-3613. (The city operates 36 parks and 10 splash pads, not the "15+" that circulates.)
- Port Neches closes its Splash Park every November through February. Tugboat Island beside it stays open, so a winter visit gets the playground but no water.
- Shangri La shuts from the last week of December and reopens January 10, plus New Year's Day and MLK Day. Don't plan an early-January visit.
- Tyrrell Park's gates shift seasonally: 6 a.m.–9 p.m. April to September, 6 a.m.–7 p.m. October to March. That governs Cattail Marsh and the Botanical Gardens.
- Colorado Canyon runs two sets of hours. Friday opens at 11 a.m. in summer, noon once school is back. The weekend doesn't change.
- Village Creek's rentals run 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. only, and the trail to the swim beach has been closed since January 2026.
- Sea Rim's East Beach has been closed to vehicles and camping since February 2026. Tropical systems close this coast at short notice from June to November.
- Big Thicket shares its trails with hunters from roughly October through February. Nothing closes, but wear blaze orange, and expect gunfire from the marsh near McFaddin on a January morning.
- Stormie's Snocones in China cuts back in fall and winter, so don't treat its summer hours as year-round. Its Sour Lake sister store closed for good in December.
One for the diary: the Nederland Heritage Festival takes over Boston Avenue every March, with street closures and a carnival.

- Check the day before you drive. Frascone, Meridian, Victoria's Candy, Shangri La, the Beaumont Children's Museum and the Museum of the Gulf Coast are all closed on Sunday.
- Budget $4 a head for a state park, not $3 — and remember under-13s go free at both Sea Rim and Village Creek.
- Get to a museum by 3 p.m. on a Sunday. Spindletop and the Texas Energy Museum both stop admitting at 4.
- Build a free day: Big Thicket, Cattail Marsh, the Botanical Gardens, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Tugboat Island and La Maison Beausoleil cost nothing between them.
- Call ahead for Beausoleil House, Pickett House, Mabel's and the Dutch Windmill Museum: all four are volunteer-run, weather-dependent or publish no hours.
