One warning before you plan: this weekend has a Sunday problem. Two of the region's best free attractions — the Stark Museum of Art and Shangri La Botanical Gardens, both in Orange — close on Sundays, and so does one of the breakfast spots below. We checked hours against each venue's own listing rather than an aggregator, so read the Sunday section before you drive.
What's Happening Friday Night in Southeast Texas?
Friday is the busiest of the three nights, and two of the four options are films. Vidor screens E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial outdoors at Conn Park, 19075 I-10 Frontage Road, at 8 PM — free, part of the city's Summer in the Park series, and people arrive early for a patch of grass. In Beaumont, the Jefferson Theatre runs The Sandlot, doors 6 PM and film at 7.
Orange has the other two: the "What's It Worth?" appraiser panel at Heritage House at 7 PM, and the Greater Orange Area Chamber's Designer Purse Bingo at the Orange County Convention & Expo Center, doors 5:30 PM.
The Bottom Line: A free family night in Vidor, or a ticketed evening in Beaumont or Orange.

The Australian Bee Gees at the Jefferson Theatre
The weekend's marquee event is The Australian Bee Gees, touring as "Feel the Fever Again," at the Jefferson Theatre, 345 Fannin Street, Beaumont, on Saturday, August 1. Doors 7 PM, show 8. The production rebuilds the Bee Gees' disco-era catalogue and three-part harmonies live, in a restored 1927 theatre.
One warning matters here: the venue states that the Beaumont Civic Center Box Office and Ticketmaster are the only authorized ticketing agents. Resale tickets risk not being honoured at the door.
The Bottom Line: The best-produced show in the Golden Triangle this weekend, in the best room.

What Are the Free Things to Do in Southeast Texas This Weekend?
Five of the twelve cost nothing. Saturday starts at the Beaumont Farmers Market, 6525 College Street, 8 to 11 AM — free to walk through, and a fair argument for a late breakfast.
Orange carries the rest of Saturday. Shangri La Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, 2111 W. Park Avenue, is free, 9 AM to 5 PM with last entry at 4:30 — formal gardens, a cypress-tupelo swamp and a bird blind on one loop. The Stark Museum of Art, 712 Green Avenue, is also free, 9 to 5. In Nederland, the Marion & Ed Hughes Public Library screens Ice Age 4 free at 11 AM.
The Bottom Line: A full Saturday in Orange — gardens and a museum — can cost nothing.
Action Item: Go early. Shangri La stops admitting at 4:30, and an August morning beats an August afternoon.

Sunday is the thinnest day, and the one most guides get wrong. Shangri La and the Stark Museum are both closed — Shangri La runs Tuesday to Saturday, the Stark Museum Wednesday to Saturday. If Orange was your Sunday plan, move it to Saturday.
What is open is worth the drive. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas, 500 Main Street, Beaumont, opens noon to 5 PM, always free, with two exhibitions hanging: Brandon Gouthier: Lipstick and Grease (Texas and Nevada car culture, through August 23) and A Legacy of Collecting. Gator Country, 21159 FM 365, runs 10 to 5 with shows at noon, 2 and 4 — $15 adults, $12 children and seniors. The Closet Social: Tiny Trendsetters, a secondhand children's market, fills the Beaumont Civic Center 2 to 6 PM.
The Bottom Line: Sunday belongs to Beaumont this week, not Orange.
Action Item: Start at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas at noon — free and air-conditioned.
What Movies Are Playing in Southeast Texas This Weekend?
Beyond the Jefferson's Sandlot screening on Friday, the big release is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which opens nationally on July 31 and is playing locally at Cinemark Beaumont 15 and XD, 3855 Interstate 10 South. Friday showings run 8:40 AM to midnight, with XD screenings at 9:00 AM, 12:20 PM, 7:00 PM and 10:20 PM.
The two work differently. Cinemark sells online and reserves seats; the Jefferson's Classic Movie Night is general admission through the Beaumont Civic Center box office, with any unsold seats released at the door from 5 PM on the night.
The Bottom Line: A 1993 classic in a 1927 theatre, or the summer's biggest opening on an XD screen.

More Things to Do in Southeast Texas This Weekend: Where to Get Breakfast
If Saturday starts at the farmers market, breakfast is the natural second stop. The Toasted Yolk Cafe, 6455 Phelan Boulevard, Beaumont, serves scratch breakfast 7 AM to 3 PM daily — the only one of these three open on Sunday.
Rao's Bakery has been a Beaumont institution since Johnny Rao founded it in 1941; the Calder shop is at 2596 Calder, with more on Dowlen Road and in Nederland. Hours are not published online, so call ahead. Main Street Cafe, 731 N Main Street, Lumberton, does pancakes and breakfast burritos from 7 AM Saturday until 7 PM — closed Sunday.
The Bottom Line: Two of the three are Saturday plans. Only the Toasted Yolk works on a Sunday morning.
