What We Do
We publish a free community newsletter every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 AM. It lands in your inbox before the workday starts, and it takes about five minutes to read. In it you'll find local news that actually affects you, events worth leaving the house for, a food pick from somewhere in the Golden Triangle, and the odd bit of good news that would otherwise slip past.
We cover the Golden Triangle the way neighbors do: without bias, without fluff, and without missing what matters. Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange — all of it, all the time.
Why We Started
Southeast Texas news was scattered. A festival announcement lived on one Facebook page, a road closure on another, a new restaurant somewhere else entirely — and unless you followed a dozen different accounts, you missed most of it. We started What's Up SETX to pull it into one place, twice a week, for free.
Community-first isn't a tagline for us. We're not chasing outrage or national politics. We're covering the place we live.

Who's Behind It
Lance Taylor publishes What's Up SETX. He also runs Tailored Financial Solutions, the financial planning practice that sponsors the newsletter. The two are sister companies, not an arm's-length advertiser. Sponsored placements are still labeled, and the sponsorship does not decide what we cover.
How We Research and Fact-Check
Every listing starts at the source. Each week we go through venue calendars, organizer pages, city and chamber listings, and the visitor bureau calendars for Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange.
Before an event runs, we check its date, time, venue and price against the organizer's own page. We check every venue, price and opening time in our guides the same way, and a guide that depends on opening hours carries the date we last checked them. We print only what a source printed.
Each newsletter gets a fact-check pass before it sends, against the original sources and the live web, to confirm every name, date and deal still holds on the send date.
