What Is Forge What's Next?
Forge What's Next is a SETX entrepreneur connection night, co-hosted by What's Up SETX and The Forge. That phrase is the poster's own, and it is deliberate. This is not a class, a pitch competition or a seminar with a speaker at the front of the room. It is two hours in a room with other people who are building something in Southeast Texas.
The line under the title reads: come with an idea, leave with a connection. That is the whole design brief. You bring whatever you are working on, whether it launched three years ago or exists only as a note on your phone, and you spend the evening finding out who else in the Golden Triangle is working on something adjacent to it.
We are co-hosting because the region has no shortage of people building things and a real shortage of rooms to meet in. This is our attempt at one.
When and Where Is It?
Forge What's Next runs Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 6 to 8 PM. The venue is The Forge, 268 Pearl Street, Beaumont, TX 77701, in downtown Beaumont.
It is free to attend and there is no RSVP. No ticket link, no registration form, no list to get your name on. Turn up between 6 and 8 PM on the 20th and walk in.
The two hour evening window is doing real work. A 7:30 AM breakfast asks you to rearrange a workday around it. A Thursday evening asks for two hours after the workday is already over. There is no set arrival time either, so getting there at 6:45 because you had to feed everyone first is normal. If all you can spare is 40 minutes, 40 minutes is still worth the drive.
Who Is the Room For?
Three groups, and the third one is the one we care most about reaching.
Business owners. People already running something in Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Nederland or anywhere else across the Golden Triangle.
Side hustlers. People with a job and a second thing going on at nights and weekends, which in Southeast Texas is a very large group and a mostly invisible one.
People still at the idea stage. Nothing launched, nothing registered, no revenue, no logo. If you have been turning something over in your head for a year and have told roughly four people about it, this room was built with you in mind.
Look at what else is available locally and you find member luncheons, industry roundtables and early morning chamber breakfasts. All of them useful, all of them filtered somehow: by membership, by sector, or by whether you can be downtown before 8 AM. Forge What's Next has no filter on the door.
What Should You Bring?
This section is our advice rather than anything the event requires. There is no dress code, no checklist and nothing you have to hand anyone at the door.
Business cards, if you own some. If you do not, skip it. Nobody is going to think less of you for typing your number into a stranger's phone instead.
One sentence on what you are working on. You will be asked that question more times in two hours than in the rest of the month, and the version you improvise at 6:05 will be worse than the one you thought about in the car. Plain language, no pitch, one sentence.
Something to write on. By 8 PM you will have three names you want to follow up with and no chance of remembering all three.

The Forge describes itself as a community of entrepreneurs, remote workers and investors focused on providing a fun and flexible coworking office space, venture funding, advice and mentorship to founders and entrepreneurs. Its own tagline is shorter: Beaumont's home for entrepreneurs to work, build, and scale.
Two halves, then. A coworking space and a fund, in the same building. That combination is unusual for a city this size, and it is a large part of why the venue suits an evening like this one rather than merely holding it.
Day to day, the space lists secure digital access, conference rooms, high speed WiFi, business advisors, community events and an arcade lounge. That is a description of The Forge as a workplace, not a list of what is on offer on the 20th. What Thursday night gives you is the room and the people standing in it.
The address, 268 Pearl Street, puts you in the middle of downtown Beaumont.
Sodas Are on Us. Dinner Is Up to You.
We are providing the drinks. Sodas, nothing to bring and nothing to chip in for. We are not providing food, and 6 PM is dinner time for most people.
Everything below is a two to five minute walk from the door. Downtown Beaumont is compact enough that nobody needs to move their car.
Before, or instead of dinner at home. Riverside Grille, 290 Crockett Street, about two minutes on foot. A scratch kitchen in the Crockett Street district. It publishes no hours on its own site, so call first if you are cutting it fine: (409) 347-8004.
After 8. Hearsay, 461 Bowie Street, about five minutes. Open until 11 on a Thursday, so it is the one nearby place still going when we finish at 8. Opened in 2025 in the building that was Suga's. (409) 234-5640.
One aside: the closest food to the door is Chuck's Sandwich Shop, four doors up Pearl at 493, and it shuts at 2 PM on weekdays. No use on the 20th, but worth knowing for a different trip downtown.

What Else Is There to Do in Beaumont?
If you are driving in from Port Arthur, Orange, Nederland or Vidor, the trip is worth more than two hours.
Beaumont has an unusually deep bench of attractions that cost nothing to walk into. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas charges no admission. Neither does the Fire Museum of Texas, the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Museum, or the guided tour of the McFaddin-Ward House on Calder Avenue. The Cattail Marsh boardwalk inside Tyrrell Park is free and open daily, and the birding out there is the best in the region by a distance.

One finding from that research is useful here: two of Beaumont's free stops are shut all weekend. The Fire Museum of Texas opens Monday to Friday, and the Botanical Gardens conservatory keeps the same hours. A Thursday gets you into both. The Saturday most people would pick gets you into neither.
